DIGITAL ELECTRONICS & COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE

PART   - A                                          10*3=30
Instruction:  (1) answer all question and each question
                                           carries THREE marks
                    (2)  answer should be brief and   straight      to  the point and shall not exceed five simple sentences

1.      Define and state De-Morgan’s therems
2.      Differentiate between serial and parallel adders.
3.      State the need for master-slave flip flop.
4.      List the applications of counters
5.      Write the applications of demultiplexers
6.      Define stored program concept
7.      Differentiate between fixed and floating point representations
8.      Define Opcode and Operand.
9.      Write about the memory hierarchy in a computer
10.  List out the various modes of data transfer
 PART- B                                    5*10=50
Instructions: (1) Answer any five questions and each question carries ten marks. (2) The answers should be comprehensive and the criteria for valuation is the content but not the length of the answer.
  
11.  (a) draw the logic circuit to develop the basic gates using NAND gate only. (b) draw the circuit and explain the operation of a 4 bit parallel Adder / 2’s complement subtractor
12.  Draw and explain the operation of clocked RS flip flop.
13. Draw the diagram of a mod-8 counter and explain its operation
14. (a) explain the operation of a decade counter using flip flops (b) describe the operation of a 2 to 4 line decoder.
15. (a) draw the block diagram of a digital compter and explain the function each block (b) define instruction, fetch and execution cycles
16. Explain zero, one , two and three address instructions with simple examples
17. (a) explain any five addressing modes. (b) explain the principle of memory interleaving.
18. (a) explain programmed I/O method of data transfer. (b) explain about a bus system.
